Project Description
A carpet is a textile floor covering typically consisting of an upper layer of pile attached to a backing. The pile was traditionally made from wool, but, since the 20th century, synthetic fibers such as polypropylene, nylon or polyester are often used, as these fibers are less expensive than wool. The pile usually consists of twisted tufts which are typically heat-treated to maintain their structure. The term “carpet” is often used interchangeably with the term “rug”, although the term “carpet” can be applied to a floor covering that covers an entire house, whereas a “rug” is generally no bigger than a single room, and traditionally does not even span from one wall to another, and is typically not even attached as part of the floor.
Carpets are used for a variety of purposes, including insulating a person’s feet from a cold tile or concrete floor, making a room more comfortable as a place to sit on the floor (e.g., when playing with children or as a prayer rug), reducing sound from walking (particularly in apartment buildings) and adding decoration or colour to a room. Carpets can be made in any colour by using differently dyed fibers. Carpets can have many different types of patterns and motifs used to decorate the surface. In the 2000s, carpets are used in industrial and commercial establishments such as retail stores and hotels and in private homes. In the recent years, a huge range of carpets and rugs are available at many price and quality levels, ranging from inexpensive, synthetic carpets that are mass-produced in factories and used in commercial buildings to costly hand-knotted wool rugs which are used in private homes of wealthy families.
Carpet and rugs market is expected to grow during the future years, owing to the rising preference for modular carpet solutions among end-users. The increase in renovation activities for residential and commercial purposes and the use of carpets and rugs for floor decoration, are also driving the growth of the market. The market is also gaining traction owing to the increase in adoption of carpets and rugs in the countries with cold climatic conditions as they provide thermal insulation benefits. Global demand for carpets and rugs will grow 2.6% per year through 2021 to 5.0 billion square meters. In value, terms, carpet and rug demand is expected to increase 4.1% per year to $45 billion in 2021. Bangladesh & India will be the fastest growing countries for carpets and rugs through 2021, leaving the Asia/Pacific region to see the most rapid gains.
Based on type, the tufted segment is expected to dominate the market owing to its increased adoption by the residential construction and commercial projects. The technological advancements have allowed the usage of recycled fiber in manufacturing of carpets and rugs, which is further driving the market for tufted carpets and rugs. Tufting is appropriate for all types of fibers & yarns and can be made in a variety of finishes, which increases the use of such types of carpets and rugs. On the basis of end-use, the residential segment is expected to grow at the highest CAGR owing to the increase in adoption of carpets for the purpose of floor coverings among residential end-users. Carpets are available in a range of colors and textures, which make them suitable for use by residential end-users in all types of decors. The increasing investment in new housing constructions and the rapid increase in home renovation projects, are driving the growth of the residential sector in the carpets and rugs market.
This proposed project will manufacture different types of carpets such as Rugs, Prayer Runners, Welcome Runners, Wall-to-Wall Carpets, Door Mats etc. The weight category of the carpets will be 1,250 grams/square metre. There will be two (02) looms and one (01) finishing unit in this project. The attainable production capacity per loom will be 2,857 square metres/day.
The attainable production capacity of this project will be 5,714 Square Metres/day, 142,850 Square Metres/month and 1,714,200 Square Metres/annum. Daily working hours will be 20 hours in a double shift basis where each shift will be 10 hours. Monthly and yearly working days will be 25 and 300 days respectively.
This project is located at Ford Nagar, Singair, Manikganj, Dhaka, Bangladesh where skilled and low cost labour force are available.
